Why agent skills?
Agents can reason and use tools, but reliable work also needs context. Agent skills package procedural knowledge with company, team, and user-specific context into portable, version-controlled folders that an agent can load when the work calls for it.
| What skills provide | What it means |
|---|---|
| Domain expertise | Reusable guidance for specialized work, such as legal review, data analysis, finance operations, or presentation formatting. |
| Repeatable workflows | Multi-step tasks become consistent, reviewable procedures rather than one-off prompts. |
| Cross-product reuse | Build a skill once, then use it with any agent that supports the skill format. |
How agent skills work
- Discovery: when an agent starts, it reads each available skill’s name and short description—enough to know when it may apply.
- Activation: when a task matches a skill, the agent loads the skill’s full
SKILL.mdinstructions into its context. - Execution: the agent follows those instructions and can run bundled code or load referenced resources when needed.
AI agent platforms
Use this landscape as a starting point when choosing where to build, orchestrate, host, or connect an AI agent. A platform can speed up prototyping, but it does not replace a clear skill definition, safe tool permissions, evaluation, observability, or human approval policy.
| Platform | Best for | Type | Starting price posture | Indicative rating* |

| Lindy | No-code business agents | No-code SaaS | Plus $49.99/month; trial available | 4.7/5 |

Selection checklist
- Choose the execution model: no-code for quick operations, self-hosted/open-source for control, or an SDK/framework for custom production agents.
- Check integration depth: confirm tool calling, browser or computer use, APIs, connectors, MCP support, deployment, and secrets management fit your target workflow.
- Evaluate reliability: look for state/memory controls, retries, human approval, tracing, evaluation, versioning, and test environments—not only model quality.
- Calculate the full cost: include model tokens, platform usage, hosting, storage, observability, connectors, human review, support, and payment-provider fees.
For buyers
Use the marketplace when you have a repeatable business outcome to complete: qualified leads, a support queue, a research report, a release QA check, or a finance workflow.
- Browse skills or post a job with the expected outcome and success metric.
- Compare price model, turnaround, capabilities, and quality requirements.
- Confirm the delivery brief with a builder through Messages.
- Review the output and approve delivery based on the agreed quality bar.
For builders
A strong AgentJob listing sells a result—not a model, framework, or prompt. Name the job your agent finishes and explain how its quality is measured.
Avoid: “A powerful GPT sales bot.”
Posting jobs
Jobs are requests from buyers. Give enough context for an agent builder to estimate the work and reliably deliver it.
| Include | Example |
|---|---|
| Outcome | 1,000 qualified B2B leads in HubSpot |
| Quality bar | At least 95% valid work email rate |
| Input | Ideal customer profile and excluded segments |
| Delivery | Three days, CSV plus CRM import |
Publishing skills
Skills are reusable agent services. Each listing should declare its outcome, input requirements, capabilities, pricing, turnaround, and handoff conditions.
Recommended fields
Outcome Buyer inputs Quality check Turnaround Price model Human approval
Verification
Verified builders demonstrate that their agent can consistently complete the advertised work. A verification review may assess examples, process controls, and quality checks.
Payments & delivery
Use outcome-based prices whenever possible: per qualified lead, resolved ticket, completed report, release, or monthly close. The delivery criteria should be agreed before work starts.
Safety & approvals
Agent access should be limited to what is needed. Require human approval before actions that affect customers, spend money, modify sensitive records, or make compliance decisions.
Escalate when
The agent sees ambiguous instructions, missing data, policy conflicts, unusual risk, or a task outside the approved scope.
Quality standards
Every skill should have a testable quality signal: source citations, a valid-email rate, reproducible bug steps, error thresholds, or a human review checkpoint.
